Do you need an underlayment for laminate flooring?

It is not strictly necessary to have underlay with your laminate flooring, however, underlay is essential for getting the most out of your new flooring. All underlay helps to insulate a room, both thermally and acoustically, making your home much more efficient. It can also help smooth out imperfections in the subfloor, increasing the comfort and longevity of your laminate. Some underlays even include a built-in damp-proof membrane (DPM) which is vital for preventing moisture from reaching the planks.
