Is Marine Ply Suitable as a Vinyl Flooring Underlayment?

"I am looking to have Amtico installed in my living room, I have a timber floor & was going to overlay with marine plywood, however I have been told that marine ply is unsuitable for a vinyl flooring underlayment, is this true?"
