What glue should be used to fix solid oak flooring to an impervious concrete floor?

Glynis Oakley asked us:

What glue should be used to fix solid oak flooring to an impervious concrete floor?

Firstly you must prime and screed your concrete floor to prepare for the adhesive. Then there are two main types of adhesive used currently:

  1. An applicator applied mastic adhesive such as ‘Sikabond’ T54FC - The mastic adhesive allows installation on floors which are slightly uneven as its applied in a 6mm bead.
  2. A trowel applied spreadable adhesive such as FBall B93 - the spreadable adhesive is much more economical from a cost and usage point of view but your subfloor must be perfectly flat and smooth.
